Removing and installing rear window regulator motor [V471]/[V472]
Rear driver side window regulator motor - V471- and rear passenger
side window regulator motor - V472- are referred to
hereafter as window regulator motor.
Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as
an example.
Removing
- Remove rear door trim ⇒ General body repairs, interior;
Rep. gr. 70 ; Rear door trim; Removing and installing rear
door trim .
CAUTION
Risk of injury to hands and eyes due to glass splinters.
Danger of cutting yourself.
- Put on safety goggles.
- Put on protective gloves.
NOTICE
Risk of damage to the door window from sliding down.
The door window could become scratched or chipped.
- Fix the door window in position using adhesive tape.
- Fix rear door window in position using commercially available
adhesive tape.
- Disconnect electrical connector -3-.
- Unscrew bolts -2-.
- Remove window regulator motor -1-.

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Removing and installing striker pin
Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehicle
as an example.
Removing
- Unscrew bolts -2-.
- Remove striker pin -1-.

Removing
- Unscrew bolts -2-.
- Remove striker pin -1-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
Striker pin with curvature
- Fit striker pin on C-pillar with curvature facing inwards.

Removing and installing rear exterior door handle [EX8]/[EX9]
NOTICE
Risk of damage to electrical components.
Electrostatic charge may damage electrical components.
- Work on electrical components must always be carried out
at an ESD workplace.
Removing
Rear left exterior door handle - EX8- and rear right exterior door
handle - EX9- are referred to hereafter as door handle.
Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as
an example.
- Remove assembly carrier ⇒ Rep. gr. 58 ; Removing and
installing assembly carrier .
- Disconnect electrical connector -1-.
- Unscrew bolts -2-, and lower the rear door lock unit, driver
side - VX83- / rear door lock unit, passenger side - VX84-
-3-.

Left side of vehicle:
- Turn eccentric -2- 180º in direction of -arrow- .
Right side of vehicle:
- Turn eccentric -2- 180º in opposite direction of -arrow-.

- Press and hold rocker switch -2- through opening.
- Slide sliding plate -1- to stop in direction of -arrow-.
- Disconnect electrical connector of door handle.

- Swing out door handle -1- in direction of -arrow-, and remove
it.

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
- Swivel in door handle, and let it engage in mounting bracket
- Using commercially available Torx "T30" driver, turn eccentric
on mounting bracket until it engages audibly in eccentric
end position.
- Perform functional check with the door open.

Dismantling and assembling rear exterior door handle [EX8]/[EX9]
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- assembly tool - T10118-
- commercially available drift
- commercially available flat-bladed screwdriver
- commercially available pliers
NOTICE
Risk of damage to electrical components.
Electrostatic charge may damage electrical components.
- Work on electrical components must always be carried out
at an ESD workplace.
Rear left exterior door handle - EX8- and rear right exterior door
handle - EX9- are referred to hereafter as door handle.
light for rear exterior door handle illumination, driver side -
L285- and light for rear exterior door handle illumination, passenger
side - L286- will henceforth be referred to as "light for
exterior door handle illumination".
The dismantling and assembling procedures are described for
the left door handle as an example.
Dismantling
- Remove door handle ⇒ Rep. gr. 58 ; Removing and installing
rear exterior door handle [EX8]/[EX9] .
- Push spring -1- in direction of -arrow A-.
- Using commercially available flat-bladed screwdriver -2-,
turn spring -1- 90º in direction of -arrow B- and detach from
mounting.

- Detach electrical connector of light for exterior door handle
illumination -2- in direction of -arrow A-.
- Using commercially available drift , drive out pin -3- in direction
of -arrow B-, and pull it out.
- Detach spring -1- from door handle -4-.

Important
- Trim -1- must not be removed.
- Remove liner -3- from door handle -2-, and remove adhesive
residue, if there is any ⇒ General information - body; Rep.
gr. 52 ; Self-adhesive components; Specifications for selfadhesive
components .

Assembling
Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly, observing the
following:
- Insert spring -1- into door handle -2-.
- Insert pin -3- in direction of -arrow A-, and press it on firmly
using commercially available pliers .

- Using assembly tool - T10118- -2-, turn spring -1- 90º in
direction of -arrow A- until hook is engaged in mounting.
- Push spring -1- apart in central area -3-.

Removing and installing mounting bracket
Removing
Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as
an example.
- Remove rear door lock unit, driver side - VX83- / rear door
lock unit, passenger side - VX84- ⇒ Rep. gr. 58 ; Removing
and installing rear door lock unit [VX83]/[VX84] .
- Remove rear left exterior door handle - EX8- / rear right
exterior door handle - EX9- ⇒ Rep. gr. 58 ; Removing and
installing rear exterior door handle [EX8]/[EX9] .
- Guide electrical wire out of guides -2-.
- Push mounting bracket -3- to stop in direction of -arrow A-,
and remove it in direction of -arrow B-.

- Swivel out Bowden cable -4- in direction of -arrow A-.
- Detach Bowden cable -4- in direction of -arrow B-.

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
Important
- Guides and retaining hooks of mounting bracket must engage
behind metal tabs of door outer panel
- Perform functional check with the door open.
Removing and installing rear door lock unit [VX83]/[VX84]
NOTICE
Risk of damage to electrical components.
Electrostatic charge may damage electrical components.
- Work on electrical components must always be carried out
at an ESD workplace.
The rear door lock unit, driver side - VX83- and rear door lock
unit, passenger side - VX84- will henceforth be referred to as
"door lock".
Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as
an example.
Removing
- Remove assembly carrier ⇒ Rep. gr. 58 ; Removing and
installing assembly carrier .
- Disconnect electrical connector -1-.
- Unscrew bolts -2-.
- Remove door lock -3- in direction of -arrow-.

New door lock
- Remove Bowden cable for exterior door handle ⇒ Rep.
gr. 58 ; Removing and installing Bowden cable for exterior
door handle .
- Remove Bowden cable for interior door handle ⇒ Rep.
gr. 58 ; Removing and installing Bowden cable for interior
door handle .

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
- Perform functional check with the door open.
Tightening torques
- ⇒ Rep. gr. 58 ; Assembly overview - door handle and door

Removing and installing assembly carrier
Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as
an example.
Removing
- Remove rear door trim ⇒ General body repairs; interior;
Rep. gr. 70 ; Rear door trims; Removing and installing rear
door trim .
- Detach rear door window from window regulator ⇒ Rep.
gr. 64 ; Removing and installing rear door window .
- Push rear door window upwards, and secure it with adhesive
tape to prevent it from falling down.
- Lever off plug -1-.
- Unscrew bolt -2-.
- Disconnect electrical connectors -3-.
- Loosen clips -4-, and lay electrical wires aside.

- Turn clips -1- 90º in direction of -arrow A-, and pull them out
slightly.
- Pull assembly carrier -2- in direction of -arrow B- out of door.

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
- Insert spreader plug and spreader rivet ⇒ Rep. gr. 64 ;
Removing and installing rear door window .
Important
- Installation sequence of clips must be adhered to.
- Clips must engage audibly.
- 3 Install clips on upper left and upper right.
- Install remaining clips.
Tightening torques
- ⇒ Rep. gr. 58 ; Assembly overview - assembly carrier
Removing and installing window channel
NOTICE
Risk of damage to window channel from applying excessive
force.
The metal insert of the window channel may be bent.
- Handle window channel with care.
Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehicle
as an example.
Removing
- Remove inner window slot seal ⇒ Rep. gr. 58 ; Removing
and installing inner window slot seal .
- Remove outer window slot seal ⇒ Rep. gr. 58 ; Removing
and installing outer window slot seal .
- Remove B-pillar trim on rear door ⇒ "3.13.2 Removing and
installing B-pillar trim on rear door" .
- Loosen upper clips of fixed rear door window ⇒ Rep.
gr. 64 ; Removing and installing fixed rear door window .
- Pull off window channel -1- in area -6- in direction of
-arrow B-.
- Guide out window channel -1- in area -3-.
- Pull off window channel -1- evenly in direction of -arrow A- in
areas -3-, -2- and -7-, starting at fixed rear door window.
- Pull off window channel -1- in area -5- in direction of
-arrow C-.
- Pull off window channel -1- in area -4- in direction of
-arrow B-.
- Pull window channel -1- in areas -4- and -5- out of door
mountings.
- Pull off window channel -1- in area -2- in direction of
-arrow C-, and remove it.

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
NOTICE
Uneven seating and fit of the window channel after installation.
Wind noise is possible.
- Ensure that item is seated and comes into contact correctly
when aligning and installing.
- Moisten window channel with soapy solution to facilitate
installation.
- Push window channel -1- in areas -4- and -5- into door
mountings.
- Fit window channel -1- in area -2- in opposite direction of
-arrow C-.
- Fit window channel -1- in area -7- in opposite direction of
-arrow A-, and align it with B-pillar trim on rear door.
- Starting at top, push on window channel -1- in area -6-.
- Starting at B-pillar, evenly push on window channel -1- in
areas -2- and -7-.
- Push on window channel -1- in area -3- at fixed rear door
window.
- Secure fixed rear door window ⇒ Rep. gr. 64 ; Removing
and installing fixed rear door window .
- Push on window channel -1- in areas -4- and -5-.

Removing and installing outer window slot seal
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- removal wedge set - VAS 895 015-
- wedge - T10039/1-
Removing
Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as
an example.
Outer window slot seal is referred to hereafter as window slot
seal.
Design of window slot seal varies depending on equipment/version.
- Insert wedge no. 3 -5- from removal wedge set - VAS 895
015- between window slot seal -1- and B-pillar trim on rear
door -4-.
NOTICE
Risk of damage to outer window slot seal due to incorrect
removal
If the metal insert in the window slot seal is bent, the window
slot seal can no longer be straightened out.
- Pull off the window slot seal evenly without bending it.
- Using wedge - T10039/1- -3-, lever window slot seal -1-
evenly off door flange -2- in direction of -arrow- starting from
outside.

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
Vehicles with end cap on window slot seal:
- Fit end cap of window slot seal before "B-pillar trim", and
push it under trim contour.

- Align window slot seal flush relative to joint with outer part of
door.
NOTICE
Risk of damage to the outer window slot seal due to incorrect
installation
If the metal insert in the window slot seal is bent, the window
slot seal can no longer be straightened out.
- Install the window slot seal evenly without bending it.
Important
- Impact tools must not be used for installing window slot seal
- Fit window slot seal evenly onto door flange by hand, starting
at B-pillar.
Removing and installing window slot inner seal
Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as
an example.
Inner window slot seal will henceforth be referred to as "window
slot seal".
Design of window slot seal varies depending on equipment/version.
Removing
- Remove rear door trim ⇒ General body repairs; interior;
Rep. gr. 70 ; Rear door trims; Removing and installing rear
door trim .
NOTICE
Risk of damage to the window slot seal due to incorrect removal.
The window slot seal may become bent.
- Proceed with caution when levering off the window slot
seal.
- Lever window slot seal -1- in direction of -arrow A- evenly off
door flange -2-.

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
- Position window slot seal -1- in direction of -arrow A- centrally
between front section of window guide -4- and rear section
of fixed rear door window -3-.
- Press window slot seal -1- in direction of "arrow B" evenly
by hand onto door flange -2- starting at centre strut of
-fixed door window-.

Vehicles with foam strip on centre strut moulding:
- Position centre strut moulding with foam strip so that it is
flush with "fixed door window".
Important
- Make sure that foam is pressed on excessively.
Removing and installing operating cable for exterior door handle
The rear door lock unit, driver side - VX83- and rear door lock
unit, passenger side - VX84- will henceforth be referred to as
"door lock".
The removal and installation procedures are described for the
left side of the vehicle as an example.
Removing
- Remove door lock ⇒ Rep. gr. 58 ; Removing and installing
rear door lock unit [VX83]/[VX84]
Door lock with cover
- Open cover -2- in direction of -arrow A-.
- Turn Bowden cable -3- 90º in direction of -arrow A-, and
unclip it in direction of -arrow C-.
- Detach Bowden cable -3- in direction of -arrow D- from door
lock -1-, and remove Bowden cable.

Door lock with SAFELOCK
- Turn Bowden cable -2- 90º in direction of -arrow A-, and
remove it from retainer.
- Swing Bowden cable -2- in direction of -arrow B- until Bowden
cable -2- can be guided out of eyelet in door lock -1- in
direction of -arrow C-.

Door lock without SAFELOCK
- Turn Bowden cable -2- 90º in direction of -arrow A-, and
remove it from retainer.
- Swing Bowden cable -2- in direction of -arrow B- until Bowden
cable -2- can be guided out of eyelet in door lock -1- in
direction of -arrow C-.

Installing
Installation is carried out in reverse sequence.
Removing and installing operating cable for interior door handle
The rear door lock unit, driver side - VX83- and rear door lock
unit, passenger side - VX84- will henceforth be referred to as
"door lock".
The removal and installation procedures are described for the
left side of the vehicle as an example.
Removing
- Remove door lock ⇒ Rep. gr. 58 ; Removing and installing
rear door lock unit [VX83]/[VX84] .
Door lock with flap for Bowden cable
- Open flap -2- in direction of -arrow D-.
- Turn Bowden cable -3- 90º in direction of -arrow A- and
swivel out in direction of -arrow B-.
- Swing Bowden cable -2- until Bowden cable -3- can be guided
out of eyelet in door lock -1- in direction of -arrow C-.
- Guide out Bowden cable -2-.

Door lock without flap for Bowden cable
- Turn Bowden cable -2- 90º in direction of -arrow A- and
swivel out in direction of -arrow B-.
- Swing Bowden cable -2- until Bowden cable -2- can be guided
out of eyelet in door lock -1- in direction of -arrow C-.
- Guide out Bowden cable -2-.
