Volkswagen ID.4: Fitting and removing the screen separator behind the front seats

The screen separator can help prevent loose objects from being thrown out of the luggage compartment into the passenger compartment during a braking maneuver, for example.

The screen separator can be fitted either behind the rear bench seat (→ Net partition behind the rear bench seat) or behind the front seats → fig. 1.

Installing the net partition

1. Holders in roof.
2. Tie-downs for attaching the hooks.
3. Fastening straps.
4. Buckles.

1. Remove the screen separator from the storage bag, roll it out and unfold it. The screen separator hinge must audibly click into place.

2. Fold the backrests of the second row seats forward.

3. Bring the front seats into the upright position and engage them as close as possible to the screen separator.

4. Attach one of the upper crossbar's hooks to one of the holders in the roof→ fig. 1 -1-.

5. Press both ends of the upper crossbar together slightly and attach the second hook into the opposite mount in the roof.

6. Release the crossbar and check that both hooks of the screen separator are properly engaged.

7. Attach the lower hooks to the fastening eyelets in the B-pillar next to the front seats→ fig. 1 -2-.

Tensioning the Screen Separator

1. Pull the ends of the fastening straps backward until the screen separator is tightened→ fig. 1 -3- → .

2. Check the tension of the screen separator again if the position of the front seats has been adjusted.

WARNING

The fastening eyelets on the B-pillar next to the front seats are not tie-downs and may only be used to fasten the screen separator. If the fastening eyelets are used to secure loads, this could result in fatal or serious injuries.

• Only use the fastening eyelets on the B-pillar next to the front seats for securing the screen separator.

Removing the net partition

1. Loosen the fastening straps of the screen separator → fig. 1 -3- by lifting the buckles → fig. 1 -4-.

2. Unhook the lower hooks from the fastening eyelets in the B-pillar next to the front seats→ fig. 1 -2-.

3. Press both ends of the upper crossbar together and hold until the screen separator is removed.

4. Pull the screen separator back slightly and then carefully remove it downward from the holders in the roof → fig. 1 -1-.

5. Press the release button on the joint of the crossbar and fold up the screen separator.

6. Roll up the net partition and stow it in the storage bag.

7. If necessary, fold back the backrests of the second row seats so they engage.

WARNING

In the case of sudden braking maneuvers or an accident, objects could being thrown through the vehicle interior, causing serious or fatal injuries.

• Check that the screen separator is undamaged.
• Never use a damaged screen separator.
• Move all backrests in front of the screen separator into the upright and engaged position.
• After fitting, always check that the hooks of the screen separator are properly engaged.
• Check regularly that the screen separator is well tensioned.
• Secure all objects in the luggage compartment even if a luggage screen separator is fitted.
• Make sure that no persons are behind the installed screen separator when the vehicle is moving.

NOTICE

Securing the net partition to unintended points can cause damage.

• Always secure the screen separator only at the points designed for it.
