Volkswagen ID.4: Body parts and materials
Moulded foam inserts
The exact location of these moulded foam inserts is shown at
the beginning of the respective repair description.
In the event of repair, use butyl adhesive/sealing cord or 2-component
filler foam for purposes of positioning.
General overview of moulded foam inserts

In the event of repair, proceed as follows
- Apply corrosion protection ⇒ General paint information - passenger
vehicles; Repair group 00; General information
Important

Foam filler hardens within 25 minutes
- Carry out cavity protection to repair area after painting vehicle.
Galvanized body parts, high/highest strength and hot-formed body panels
Important
- Repairs may only be carried out according to the relevant
manufacturer's instructions. Higher-strength and hot-formed
body panels may only be repaired using modern inverter
technology. Passenger protection will otherwise not be optimal
after repair. Form-tempered steel panels are used in
areas under extreme stress. These panels offer considerably
higher strength than conventional high strength panels with
less weight.
- All work on galvanized and strengthened body panels
must
comply with the specifications in Workshop Manual ⇒ General
information; Body repairs; General body repairs; Fundamentals
on body repairs.
- The vehicle body is predominantly manufactured from
galvanised steel panels.
- The following illustrations show the parts of the
body made
from hot-formed body panels.
- The side member reinforcement insert is made of
extruded
aluminium.
